Ha Ha Ha Your Way to Laughter Therapy
Ever notice that when you are feeling extremely sad and anxious, you aren't laughing? This may seem obvious, but just take a moment now and let out a big, bellowing laugh like you just heard the funniest thing on earth. No, really, just try it. Go to the bathroom and shut the door if you need to!
Did you notice that you automatically had to give up thinking about your anxiety, at least for a split second, when you let out this roar? A good, hearty chuckle doesn't just give you a good ab workout by the end, but has also been found to have valuable effects, such as:
Laughter is a natural coping method, and it is contagious.
* Releases deeply-imbedded anger, sadness and/or guilt * Increases immunity * Boosts "happy" hormones/endorphines while decreasing stress hormones * Makes you more approachable in social situations; creates bonds to others * Promotes overall relaxation and good vibes
This may seem uncomfortable at first, and you might not even want to let yourself to start laughing, but soon it will become an easy habit.
From laughter therapy Dr. Goodheart's website, www.teehee.com:
"Healthy, non-ridiculing and connecting laughter provides physiological, psychological and spiritual benefits you probably never realized or imagined. We are born with the gift of laughter -it's being serious that we learn. So, learn to laugh, and live, all over again."
